DAPHNE SAMARAS
We designed the visual identity of Daphne Samaras, a Greek-Hungarian film director. She was named after Daphne, an ancient Greek mythological character. The short version of Daphne’s story is that Apollo was crazily fell in love with her but she didn’t want to be with him, so she became a bay tree. Otherwise Daphne means bay leaf in Greek. We used a leaf form for the logo but we wanted to reflect on her profession as well. We chose an eye motif, because it reflects on the most important sense of a film director. These two motifs have the same shape so we decided to use the combination of them. This is how we got this unique symbol. We used a green color because we wanted to refer to the leaf but we chose a pastel shade because the logo itself is a very strong sign. In other parts of the identity we used a simple typographic system. The business cards were printed with letterpress.
